My Sony vaio turns on but comes up a black screen. How do I wipe it without using a wipeout disc?

I own a Sony Vaio I don't exactly know what year but I think it has a virus due to alot of downloading. All I know is that when I turn it on, it comes up a black screen without displaying the vaio or any screens. My question is what are my options? And if my only option is to wipe it, how do I do that without using back-up discs or a wipe-out discs?|||Hello,

If you are getting nothing at all, no screen, nothing, I would not immediately assume it was the operating system. It almost sounds like it could be a display problem. Was it dropped recently? Might try taking the easy accessible items out of the laptop (ram, hard drive if possible) and try to re-set them prior to this. I guess one way would be to try to boot it with a bootable disk, ie: xp. Can you get to your bios?
