How do you upload footage from Sony HandyCam to iMovie?

I'm trying to upload videos from my Sony HandyCam to my Mac OS X iMovie. When I open the iMovie application, I wait to see if it recognizes the camera, but no luck so far. I've been reading some forums, and it's been rumored that the Sony HandyCam isn't supported by the Mac OS X system. Please let me know your suggestions and tips. It's much appreciated. Thanks.|||yes, definitely imovie will not import sony video (avchd), for it is not a proper format that imovie can accept, to make it workable with imovie, you need to change it to the right format like mov, mpeg-4, dv etc, you can try avchd to imovie, hope it can help you, by the way, happy Valentine's Day :)|||Check the iMovie camera compatibility database:

Check the manual of the camera to find out if there is anything you have to do when connecting the camera to the Mac.

Read the iMovie Help to find out how you import video directly from a camcorder.|||does your camcorder is Mini DVD camcorder?
