I've borrowed a Sony Handycam and I need to transfer the video files to my computer for editing. This isn't my camera, so all I have is a USB cable. I've tried plugging it into the camera and computer and turning the camera on. The computer doesn't recognize the software. :( What do I need to do to get the files onto my computer?|||HandyCam is a brand name for ALL Sony consumer camcorders.
Any MiniDV or Digital8 tape camcorder connects using firewire (not USB). Add a firewire port if your computer does not have one (hopefully there is an available expansion slot).
Any hard drive or flash memory connects using USB and USB drivers are required.
DVD camcorders need a drawer loading DVD drive and you will rip the video with a DVD ripper.
Analog tape (VHS, VHS-C, Hi8) cams need an analog/digital bridge like those from Canopus or Pinnacle (Dazzle)|||It all depends on what media your camcorder records to.
For tape, follow these directions: http://motionpicturecentral.com/content/鈥?/a>
If your camera records to some other kind of media, you need to follow the owners manual.
