As of right now Sony only has the 40GB PS3 on the market. Is Sony planning to make a new model that is backwards complatible with PS2 or are there no plans for that in the future?|||If you're from PAL zone (as I am) - sorry, no new version coming soon. All PAL is getting are two new 40GB bundles, nothing else...|||The 60 Gig ps3 is is able to play all ps2 games. but it is obsolete right now. The 80 gig is backward compatable, but I am not sure how many pf them will play on the 80 gig.|||60gb and 20gb can play 99% of ps2 games.
80gb can play 80% of ps2 games and i have heard that 120 gb is comming out which can play 100% of ps2 games|||Sony released the 20, 60 and 80GB PS3 models and all were Backwards Compatible using either the PS2's "Emotion Engine" CPU (20 and 60GB) or a software emulator program (80GB model) !
Yes ! Sony announced that there will be another 80GB PS3 available that will come bundled with the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid: Guns Of The Patriot game as well as the Dual Shock 3 controller and Sony states it'll have both hardware and software Backwards Compatibility ! Hardware = The PS2's "Emotion Engine" CPU installed as the 20GB and 60GB had and a software emulator program as the recently discontinued 80GB used !
Note: Sony has stated that this MGS bundle 80GB PS3 will play a "limited" number of PS1 and PS2 titles so who we'll have to wait and see what games will or will not work !
Some retailers still have some 80GB models still in stock ! ToysRUs had some listed on their website just the other day so if you're looking for one that has BC, try searhcing the net !
Keep in the mind that the current 80GB model will not play all PS2 games as it uses a software emulator program to mimic the PS2's EE CPU. Roughly only 75%-85% of PS2 games will work on the current 80GB model !|||What county do you live in? Because I live in the US and the 20, 60, and 80 GB all have backwards compatibility. The 20 and 60 aren't being made right now, but the 80 is. The 40 GB is the only one without the Emotion Engine or software emulator built in, like you are saying.|||I don't see why they wouldn't. I think it was a dumb move to stop it in the first place. They'll redo it and make it better. Rumor has it that they could do it within a single update....|||true in the uk the 40gb is only on the market im not sure umm.. ahhh... why dont you look on ebay find an 80( not full backwards compatible) or the 60 (if your lucky) and while your at it you might aswell get urself an DUAL SHOCK 3! and then maybe send it to me?!?!?!?!?!?
