What is it about Sony that makes people not like them for car stereos?

My husband wants to buy a Sony car stereo that has gotten really good reviews, but I've heard that people like other brands better. Why is that?|||Well, in protest of the above, Sony has actually done itself a favor and has made their products CEA-2006 compliant.

This is a voluntary action by manufacturers to have their product tested by the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). This signifies the product follows a standard for all audio equipment (Amps, head units, etc.) and is recognized to push the watts RMS stated on the box.

Sony has improved in the last few years on their product and by getting CEA compliant is just another step towards being better.

I've owned a Sony amp for three years now and have had no trouble whatsoever.|||Sony as a brand for car audio is known as one of the "cheap" brands. Not only in price but in durability. I'm sure some on here will protest my answer but, they are known for early failure. They also like to play games with their advertised specs for the amplifiers and speakers. Don't believe what you read on the box.

They have not built their car audio products to the home audio/video standards they are known for.

Just because it says "Sony" doesn't always mean they are on top. Their T.V.'s are top notch but, stay away form the mobile audio line!!!

In regards to the post below....CEA-2006 compliant is a buzz word in the industry. It has nothing to do with durability. If the poster below has an amp that has run for 3 years...congrats. I know many that have had Sony amps peter out in 3 to 6 months when pushed to there posted specs. If you run them at higher ohm ratings and don't stress them out they will probably live...for awhile. As for the original question....a Sony car stereo is on the bottom end of the scale when it comes to performance and durability. As for speakers and subs....flashy, look cool, lower cost, failures abundant when pushed to the specs on the box.|||I own a sony head unit and never had trouble with it.. It plays and looks just as great.|||I love my sony amp and subs. No problems for 9 months and they were used for a year before I got them. I think people are talking out of the butts and they haven't used the stuff. I have NEVER used a sony head unit and can't say anything about them.|||why dont u just buy and regret later on..when ppl r saying that ony is crap they mean it..i had myself used it..its f.u.k.i.n crap....f.u.c.k sony..m frustated by sony..they dont make car audio as good as home audio. keep this in mind..they r not at all reliable..all crap crap..poor quality components..ppl who gave them good reviews i bet they live in hole and neve sat in sm other car or neve heared sm other brand,,...i beg u frm my side dont let ur husband buy sony..go for alpine 9855..cheap and best...if hes thinkin for sony give him tight slap..but no sony for car|||cuz they jus got in the game and pretty much everyone is better except lanzar, pyle and brands u never heard of b4
